Peter & Toni

Lord God,
You put us through the sanctification process... though, to us, it feels more like "spank-ta-facation"...because it usually involves discipline of some sort.

In 1 Peter, chapter one, Peter is writing to people under terrible persecution by Nero and the inquisitions. They, like Jenni, are in SERIOUS trouble...though not of their own making, necessarily. Nero would take these people, dip them in tar, put them on a cross and light them as tiki-torches for his garden parties. This was a horrible time...and to these people, Peter wrote this letter, encouraging them in their faith and describing this time as a period of sanctification.

In there, he said that (v2) sanctifying of the Spirit is for obedience. As we go through trials, we are to (1) know that God allowed them in order to perfect our faith (James 1) and give us more endurance as we walk with Him; there is a positive purpose in putting us through trials, somewhere down the line, they will bring about positive results, that is why we are to consider it all joy when we go through them...not like "Whoo-hoo! I just got arrested!" but knowing that the arrest is offering us a chance to reflect and change for the better.

We are to place these trials under submission to God. We do this by asking Him to show us the bigger picture. For example: I have a fight with my boss over something trivial...but it blew up into something huge, I was totally angry and stormed out. Now, ask yourself, WHY were you angry? Were you more angry or fearful, because fear looks a lot like anger sometimes. How often do you react in fear? Why? Because I am afraid of being...rejected, criticized, etc. Why? Because that means I'm not loved, accepted, approved, etc. Take THAT thing and pray about it. Ask God to heal that hurt.

We've found that most, if not all, addictions are centered in a lack of nurturing and need to be loved. So, if someone gets arrested for that...deal with the root in addition to repenting of the situation.

According to 1 Peter, as we go through periods of sanctification and/or remove this block of "spank-ta-fication" it allows us to obey better and more willingly. Down the line, there will be a new blocks to deal with...hopefully, the next time it will be a bit smaller and a bit farther away from the first one. Each block brings us into a deeper relationship with Jesus, improves our Character and brings Glory to God.

So, Lord, I pray for Jenni. She is crying out to you. She's either at or close to the point of doing ANYTHING that You tell her to. Bring mentors by her who will help lead her on the path of righteousness...basically, to grow her up in You. Give her strength and endurance to overcome. Guard this little lamb of yours from attack by the Wolf, your enemy who only seeks to steal, kill and destroy. Break old habits of the heart so that she can walk in the light of Your wisdom and love. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Dear God, Jenni cries out to you from a place of deep pain. She asks Your children to support her in prayer. She needs Your Holy Spirit in her life now, to heal her mind and protect her. Please act in her life, and restore to her an image of herself as Your child, perfect as Your creation, prior to any mistakes she has made in her life. Let her Inner Christ live through her from this moment onward. Amen.
